I am a certified vegan, and the only thing vegans love more than telling other people they’re vegans is organic, eco-friendly products for our diet, lifestyle, body, and mind.
I buy organic food because I believe a natural diet, free of synthetic ingredients is key to living a healthy and happy life.
Until recently I thought my eco-friendly organic lifestyle and my sleeping habits unrelated, then I found the Happsy Mattress, a certified organic mattress and was delightfully surprised, and “Happsy-ly” impressed.

Things to Consider Before Buying a New Mattress
Before purchasing a mattress, you should also determine what type of mattress is best for your body and your sleep type, and what features are important to you.
Materials & Construction
The materials your mattress is constructed from are as important as how your mattress is constructed.
Synthetic Materials – Synthetic materials are artificially processed and utilized in the construction of many mattress brands.
Synthetic materials, though cheaper are potentially harmful to the body and the environment.
Organic Materials – Organic materials are sustainably sourced and provide a softer, less irritating sleep surface than synthetic materials.
Sleep Type
Your sleep type refers to the position you assume when you sleep. Sleep type also determines what mattress features your body needs to sleep comfortably and wake rested.
Back – Back sleepers sleep on, you guessed it, their back. Back sleepers often feel most comfortable on a firm or medium-firm mattress that contours to the convex shape of the lower back.
Stomach – Stomach sleepers are recommended to seek out a firm mattress that supports the hips and prevents the body from sinking unevenly into the mattress surface.
Side – A soft mattress appeals to side sleepers because sleeping on your side can cause strain on the neck. A softer mattress enables your body to sink further into the mattress.
Combination – Combination sleeping is where mattresses get interesting and for me a little tricky.
My wife refers to my sleep habits as she does a tornado in a trailer park. I roll around and switch between stomach, back and side sleeping all night long, which means I need a mattress that can respond to that movement
Combination sleepers benefit most from a medium-firm, responsive mattress the contours to the shape of the body, and allows just enough sink to feel comfortable
Sleep Disorder
Sleep disorders weigh heavily on your ability to sleep comfortably, which is why finding a mattress that is designed to alleviate sleep disorder symptoms.
Nocturnal Pain – According to the Sleep Foundation, Chronic nocturnal pain is a sleep disorder that affects over 50% of all adult Americans.
The best mattress choice for you will vary depending on the type of nocturnal pain you experience, and the way in which you sleep.
Experts recommend a firm mattress for those who suffer from chronic back pain, and a softer mattress for those who suffer from joint pain.
Overweight – Those who are overweight reportedly find the most comfort sleeping on a firmer mattress that includes deep support and prevents the body from sinking too far into the mattress.
Firmness
Mattress firmness is determined on a scale of one to ten; scores below five are considered soft to very-soft, higher scores range from firm to medium-firm and very-firm.
Innerspring mattresses are generally considered firmer than foam mattresses. Latex mattresses vary widely on the firmness scale depending on how the latex is utilized in the mattress.
Firmer mattresses provide additional support, whereas softer mattresses contour to the shape of the body and allow the body to sink into the surface of the mattress.
Before buying a hybrid mattress, you should first consider:
- Your sleep type. (stomach, back, side or combination)
- If you suffer from any sleep disorders
- If you are experiencing any nocturnal pain
- How firm you desire the mattress to be
The Happsy Mattress
I am the type of consumer who prefers to make eco-friendly, organic purchases, so I steer away from synthetic materials whenever possible.
When I discovered that my mattress was laden with synthetic materials that are potentially harmful to the body, and certainly harmful to the environment, I knew I had to make a change.
I decided to seek out an all natural mattress and was met with a simple, albeit significant issue. I am a combination sleeper.
I switch between sleeping on my back, stomach, and side, which makes finding a mattress that is comfortable regardless of my sleep posture very difficult.
I quickly determined I needed an organic, eco-friendly hybrid mattress, that combines features of latex, foam and innerspring.
I Googled “organic hybrid mattress” and was quickly directed to the Happsy Mattress.

Features & Benefits
The core principle of the Happsy mattresses revolves around its certified organic materials and the wide appeal of its hybrid design.
High-Quality Certified-Organic Materials
Every part of the Happsy mattress is designed to provide superior comfort, support, and breathability. It includes natural fibers that feel softer against the skin than synthetic materials like polyurethane and polyester.
Organic Cotton Fabric & Filling
The Happsy mattress is upholstered with luxurious certified-organic cotton fabric for a soft, non-toxic sleep surface. Â The layers of soft fluffy cotton batting add softness to the sleep surface and wick away moisture.
Organic Wool Batting
The Organic Wool Batting adds a fluffy, soft feel to the Happsy mattress. Wool helps to regulate body heat and humidity and keeps the Happsy mattress cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
Organic Latex
The Happsy mattress is designed with a 2-inch layer certified-organic latex foam. Â Latex foam is responsive, supportive and conforms to the shape of the body.
Construction & Design
The Happsy mattress is an innerspring-latex hybrid, that consists of three distinct components.
Each component is designed to provide the Happsy mattress with characteristics of three different mattress types, innerspring, latex and memory foam.
Organic Cotton Cover
The organic cotton cover of the Happsy mattress consists of organic cotton woven into a layer of organic wool.
The cover adds softness to the sleep surface absorbs moisture and wicks away body heat. The organic cotton cover can also be removed for cleaning which, as a parent of messy kids, is a feature that I can appreciate.
The cover is organic cotton that is quilted to a .25-inch layer of organic wool on the top and cotton batting on the sides.
The wool acts as an all-natural flame retardant that also wicks away moisture and helps keep the body feeling cool and fresh. You can remove the cover, which is convenient for spot cleaning.
Dunlop Latex Foam
The Happsy mattress utilizes a 2-inch thick layer of certified-organic latex foam to provide surface support and responsiveness to the sleep surface.
The latex foam allows your body to sink into the mattress, relieving pressure points and providing relief for the bodies more sensitive areas.
However, Dunlop latex is naturally springy which provides the mattress with support and prevents the body from sinking too far into the mattress.
Pocketed Innersprings
8 inches of individually pocketed steel coils comprise the second layer of the Happsy mattress. The innerspring steel coils provide the Happsy mattress with base support and enable it to contour to the shape of the body.
Happys Mattress Feel
The Happsy mattress performs as well as comparably priced latex-innerspring hybrid mattresses and appeals to wide range of sleep types.
The hybrid characteristics of the Happsy mattress enable it to perform well for back, side, stomach and combination sleepers.
I find the mattress firm and supportive which has been great news for my back. The Happsy mattress provides significant back pain relief, it contours to my body and aligns my spine well enough that I wake rested and free of low back pain.
It’s important to keep in mind that everyone’s appraisal of a mattress is going to be different, and partly based upon your preference.
However, the Happsy mattress includes several features that are unaffected by preferential bias.
Medium-Firm
The Happsy mattress scores 6-7 out of ten on the firmness scale, and is even customizable, should you choose to utilize the softer organic cotton cover.
A medium-firm sleep surface is recommended for most sleep types. Medium firm mattresses, like the Happsy, conform to the shape of the body, effectively cradling the spine and enabling healthy spinal alignment.
Back Sleeper
If you are a back sleeper, then you will find the Happsy mattress more than comfortable. It hybrid characteristics allow it to cradle your body and provide targeted support for the areas that need it most.
When sleeping on my back, I felt the Happsy mattress provided more than adequate support, especially in my lumbar area.
Back Pain – The Happsy mattress is a great choice for back sleepers, but it is also a great choice for those who suffer from back pain or stiffness.
The mattress does a great job of relieving pressure points. I felt that my weight was evenly dispersed, and I felt little strain in my back, even when changing positions.
Side Sleeper
For back and stomach sleepers too much sink in a mattress is a negative feature. However, If you are a side sleeper then sinking into your mattress is a good thing.
If I assume that you are a side sleeper, then it may be safe to assume you suffer from at least a mild form of neck and high back pain.
Side sleepers often experience neck pain because the height of the shoulder causes the neck to strain to rest the head on the surface of the mattress.
The Happsy mattress provides a medium-firm sleep surface, which means it absorbs your body weight and allows you to sink into the mattress.
The Happsy mattress is reported to perform “fair” to “good” for most side sleepers.
I thought the Happsy mattress performed better than average when side sleeping because it also relieved pressure from my hips and knees.
Stomach Sleeper
A responsive, medium-firm sleep surface is conducive to a good night sleep for most sleep types, but especially for stomach sleepers.
A common complaint amongst stomach sleepers is that their hips sink too far into the mattress, causing strain on the hips and lower back.
The Happsy mattress is very responsive and elevates the hips, both of which are beneficial to stomach sleepers.
Combination Sleeper
The hybrid characteristics and medium-firm sleep surface of the Happsy mattress enable it to appeal to every sleep type.
That’s great news for combination sleepers who switch between sleep types, often multiple times a night.
Heavy Sleeper
The Happsy mattress performs moderately well for heavier individuals (>230 pounds) according to consumer reviews.
The pocketed innerspring support system provides deep support while contouring to the shape of the body.
This feature enables the Happsy mattress to support extra weight without allowing the body to sink too far as to cause strain on the hips, spine, and shoulders.
Happsy Mattress Performance
The Happsy mattress performs well in most categories, which is not a surprise since its hybrid design incorporates the best features of latex, memory foam and innerspring mattresses.
Temperature Neutrality
If you have ever thrown the covers off of you in a feeble attempt to cool off, only to cover up again shivering minute later, then I don’t have to convince you of the importance of temperature neutrality.
Happsy latex foam is porous and carved with grooves to improve airflow and regulate sleep temperature, enabling it to sleep cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter.
Edge Support
Edge support keeps your body from rolling off the side of the mattress. It also makes it easier to get in and out bed. Edge support is notoriously poor in foam mattresses, but not the Happsy mattress.
The pocketed innerspring system stretches across the entire width of the mattress and prevents the edge from sagging or deteriorating under repeated use.
Motion Isolation
The Happsy mattress provides a significant amount of motion isolation. The latex foam, though very responsive does a good job of absorbing and dampening motion, which also makes it a great choice for couples.
Off gassing
Significant outgassing is commonly reported by Happsy customers, but I can confidently state that the odor dissipates after a few days.
Value
Latex is naturally resilient and more durable than other mattress materials, as such the Happsy mattress can be expected to be fairly durable. When combined with its comparatively low price point the Happsy mattress provides a significant amount of value.
Warranty
The Happsy mattress includes a 10-year, non-prorated warranty.
Sleep Trial
I found the 120-night sleep trial more than adequate, especially since it does not require a break-in period.
Price
The Happsy mattress is not the most affordable Hybrid mattress on the market but is significantly more affordable than brands of similar quality.
However, when compared to similar 100% organic mattresses the Happsy is much more affordable.
Queen-size Happsy mattresses are available for $1,399, and $1,798 if you include the organic-cotton cover.
What are People Saying About Happsy Mattress
I scoured the internet and turned up hundreds of positive customer reviews for the Happsy mattress
Surprisingly the Happsy mattress manages only 3.7 stars on Amazon.
However, customers are generally pleased with their purchase and would recommend the Happsy mattress to a friend.
