Serta is one of the oldest mattress companies in the United States, having established itself back in 1931 with its Perfect Sleeper line of mattresses. Today, you can find Serta mattresses almost anywhere that furniture is sold. The brand has been prolific over the decades and expanded its customer base. Serta sells products both on their website and through a host of third-party retailers.
If you’ve watched a lot of television, you’ve likely seen Serta’s commercials. It is most famous for the “Counting Sheep” advertising campaign, which features a group of sheep going to the unemployment office because the now-comfortable sleeper has no more need to count them. Commercials in a similar vein also exist, but the counting sheep is the most recognizable mascot.
Serta has its headquarters located in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, and has 23 manufacturing plants throughout the United States. An additional four plants reside in Canada.
Serta partnered with the National Sleep Foundation to promote healthy sleep habits and products throughout the United States. The company is the number one supplier of mattresses to hotels and other buildings in the hospitality industry.

Product Offering
Currently, Serta offers three product lines of mattresses, although it only started with one. The four main lines are the Perfect Sleeper series, which consists of inner-spring models; the iComfort series, which consists of inner-spring/foam hybrids; the SertaPedic, which uses both inner-spring and foam models. Serta also has a lineup exclusively for hotel partners.
The one we’ll be talking about today is the Serta iComfort Hybrid Blue Fusion Plush. It is 13.5 inches high and incorporates layers of cushioned inner coils, various types of memory foam, Serta’s patented fabric blend, and cooling gel to give you the best of cooling, comfort, and support.
Customer Support
To contact Serta customer support, you can call them at (888) 557-3782 to speak to a representative. If you’d rather do things online, you can go to Serta’s customer support page and fill out a form. Explain details of your location, where you got your mattress, and other information. You can also just ask questions about various products to learn more about how Serta can help you improve your sleep.
We’re not sure how active Serta is on social media. Many companies today would be well-advised to engage potential clientele on social media because it’s where most people spend most of their time online. Having a Facebook or a Twitter account can reach customers that otherwise would not think to shop Serta.
The company actively encourages users to submit reviews of products by offering the chance to win a $200 Serta gift card. Of course, the odds of doing so aren’t that high, but it’s still a nice incentive.
Serta’s customer support pages and its FAQ explain the majority of topics clearly, and by many accounts, customers had good experience in dealing with Serta customer service. This is a good sign in our opinion; even if there are problems with a product, good customer service can alleviate the discomfort somewhat.
Sleep Trials, Warranties & Return Policy
Serta’s return policy allows users to try out the Blue Fusion Plush, along with other mattresses, for up to 120 nights, after having it for at least 30 days. Although Serta maintains some retail locations, it realizes that a brief stop in a showroom isn’t going to be enough to get a true feel for the mattress.
If you decide during the 120-day period that you aren’t satisfied with the mattress and customer service cannot help, you can call them and arrange a return. You’ll get a refund within seven days, minus a 15 percent restock fee. This seems rather steep compared to other retailers and mattress models.
As far as a warranty, you get a 10-year limited warranty. This covers the cost of repair or replacement and is valid as long as the mattress has not been damaged through improper use. If there is a defect result from poor quality manufacture and you can prove it to be so, you can have the mattress repaired at no cost.
Return policies differ by location if you buy your Serta Blue Fusion Plush at a local retailer. You’ll have to contact the retailer and find out how the store’s return policy works and how you’ll get a refund.
Coupons, Discounts, Sales & Deals
Serta itself doesn’t seem to offer many coupons on the site for this specific mattress or others of its type. This is a disappointment to us because one of the things customers look for when they purchase a mattress, or any large item is a discount of some kind. Serta’s products tend to be sold as-is regarding price. We also didn’t find many affiliate coupons. Serta products are a bit on the pricey side, so if you’ve got a tight budget, you may want to find another product line.
That said, individual retailers who sell the Blue Fusion Hybrid Plush have deals from time to time. Keep an eye out for closeouts, clearances, or seasonal deals. Spring seems to be a time when stores offer coupons for their products. One way to get a good deal is to buy an entire bed set with the mattress. You can usually get a discount on the price you would have paid for all items separately.

What Sizes Is It Available In?
From what we’ve seen, the Serta iComfort Blue Fusion Hybrid is available in all major sizes, from Twin up to California King. It can be hard to navigate the website to find exactly the size you’re looking for, but it is there.
Here’s a brief breakdown of the sizes and their dimensions. The height is the same for all sizes: 13.5 inches.
- Twin: 38 inches x 75 inches
- Twin XL: 38 inches x 80 inches
- Full: 53 inches x 75 inches
- Queen: 60 inches x 80 inches
- King: 76 inches x 80 inches
- California King: 72 inches x 84 inches
What’s It Made Out Of?
The Serta Blue Fusion Hybrid consists of layers of Serta’s patented foams that surround a bed of coiled inner springs. The company is tight-lipped about the exact composition of its materials, so we can’t say for sure whether its products are eco-friendly or what densities they are.
The base of the Blue Fusion Hybrid 200 Plush consists of a thick layer of dense polyfoam. It, along with Serta’s Hybrid Coil Support System and the BestEdge foam casing, makes your bed springy and suitable for a wide range of sleep positions. The springs are made of 14-gauge steel and independently wrapped.
The layer above that consists of 2 inches of foam infused with Serta’s EverCool Fuse Gel. The combination of these two ingredients presents you with a plush portion that draws heat away and keeps you cool while you sleep.
On top of this layer is a 0.75-inch transition layer of TempActiv gel memory foam. Memory foam creates a contoured surface for your body, making it an excellent choice for side sleepers. TempActiv, for example, contains microscopic gel beads that act as the cooling agent by trapping and dissipating heat.
The top two layers of the mattress are made of 1.75 inches of PillowSoft foam and PillowSoft high-density foam, acting as a cushion.
The cover is made of FireBlocker Fiber, which is a blend of natural and synthetic fibers. The mattress has the same basic construction layout as many others of its type from what we can tell. It’s hard to determine the specifics of the TempActiv gel and Serta’s other proprietary components because they prefer to keep some things secret to the public.
On a firmness scale of 1 to 10, with ten being the firmest, the Serta Blue Fusion 200 Hybrid Plush is about 3.
Is It Good For…?
Side Sleepers
Yes. The Fusion 200 Hybrid Plush is an extremely soft mattress with a lot of flexibility. The top layers of foam compress perfectly to the curves of the body without creating too much of a dip.
If this mattress were too firm, it would not work for side sleepers. The lack of compression would cause excessive force to concentrate in the shoulders, hips, and neck. This position would cause strain on the spinal column over time.
Stomach Sleepers
No, but it isn’t particularly bad. Stomach sleepers benefit from firm support. The natural curve of the spine becomes exaggerated on an improperly supported bed, causing arching and putting too much pressure on the abdominal cavity.
This hybrid mattress allows you to sink enough to be comfortable, and the coil support system prevents the mattress from bottoming out even if you’re a heavier person.
Back Pain
No. The mattress is much too soft to relieve back pain. In fact, it can make it worse. A mattress that lacks firmness, even though it has inner springs, does not provide the spine and lumbar region with proper support. Most of the body’s weight is centered in the abdominal cavity, and the back and stomach can buckle. This, in turn, leads to straining of the back muscles and the shoulders.
The best mattresses for back pain are either firmer or they have an extra layer of foam to support the lumbar region.
Hot Sleepers
Yes. The presence of multiple layers of cooling foam, such as the EverCool Fuse gel, mitigates the softness of the mattress. Soft mattresses tend to let people sink into them, and this impedes the flow of air that normally keeps you cool. If the cooling foam were not present, it wouldn’t be comfortable to sleep on this mattress in warm weather.
Heavy People
Yes. The coiled springs reinforce the bed’s support in ways a foam mattress cannot. We couldn’t find an exact weight specification for this model, but estimates of similar models are about 250 pounds per side. The extra height helps too; heavy people need at least 12 inches of mattress thickness.
Sex
No. While the extreme softness is good in a lot of circumstances, sex isn’t one of them. Because the mattress has little firmness, it doesn’t support you and your partner and makes you feel like you’re contending with the mattress and losing power and rhythm. There is some bounce, but it’s offset by the softness.
Another problem with having sex on this mattress is that it can be squeaky. Even though the springs are insulated, extreme exertion can lead to loud bedsprings and announce to the entire house that you’re getting intimate with your partner.
Where Can I Buy It?
Serta provides mattresses to major retailers all over the United States and some internationally. Stores like Mattress Firm, Macy’s, JC Penney, The Mattress Factory, and Ashley Furniture stock Serta mattresses, just to name a few.
If you prefer to check out the Serta Blue Fusion Hybrid in person, you should go to the Serta website and find the Store Locator service. After entering your ZIP code, you’ll get a list of merchants that carry a particular mattress in your area. There is no guarantee that the stock count is accurate at the time, so you should call the store first to verify availability.
How Much Does It Cost?
Here’s a brief look at the price ranges we found on Serta’s website for the mattress. Retailers might have different prices, so keep a lookout for deals or bargains. You might find it for cheaper somewhere else.
- Twin: $759
- Twin XL: $849
- Full: $1019
- Queen: $1199
- King: $1699
- California King: $1699
You can apply for the iComfort credit card on Serta’s website, but you’ll need to wait a week or so after approval to receive a card in the mail so you can then use it. The most common pricing available through the credit card is $50 per month up to a maximum of $3000. You get 0 percent APR for up to 60 months, so you do not have to pay any interest. The details vary, and you should know that not all purchases are eligible for financing in this manner.
Is It Worth It?
Serta is a well-known and trusted brand that can be expected to deliver high-quality products. We believe the mattress possibly delivers a good enough mix of important qualities to be worth the price tag, but we would prefer if more specific information about their ingredients were available.
Hybrid mattresses are usually a great choice for any bedroom, even though they cost a good deal more than either inner-spring or foam mattresses. The EverCool memory foam is said to retain its form and ability to regulate temperature for up to 12 times longer than regular memory foam. However, the mattresses in the iComfort line that use this foam are too new to make an informed decision. The projected lifetime for a mattress of this caliber is about six years.
Shipping Info
The Serta Blue Plush Hybrid 200 mattress comes with white glove service. This means that the delivery personnel bring the mattress to your room of choice, unbox it, and set it up on a foundation. They also remove the old mattress.
Shipping occurs from Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., with limited availability on weekends and holidays. After the facility receives your mattress from Serta’s distribution center, they call you to schedule a delivery. You can expect them within a 4-hour window of time, and you need to have someone at home to receive and inspect the mattress.
Best Bed Frame/Foundation for the Serta Blue Fusion Mattress
You can use the Serta Blue Fusion mattress with any one of Serta’s foundations, including the ones that are adjustable.
If you prefer to use your existing foundation rather than buy a new one, it needs to be a solid piece. If it has slats, they should be no more than 3 inches apart. Otherwise, you risk the mattress tearing under the force of its weight. This type of damage would not fall under your warranty.
Why Not to Buy A Serta Mattress
Serta is the most well-known mattress company in the United States, and the prices of the products often reflect this prestige. Even the cheapest mattresses in queen size – the most common size that people buy – are above $1,000 and closer to $1,500. If you’re on a tighter budget, you should consider other options.
Serta also tends to limit the sizes of a lot of their products. Therefore, if you want a certain mattress in a Twin and it only comes in Queen and King, you’re out of luck.
Some customers also complained about the cooling gel losing some of its effects over time. Although cooling gel is a good idea if it loses its ability to do the job it does little good.
Compare Similar Brands
If you’re interested in shopping a well-known brand, but Serta isn’t for you, try out MattressFirm. This company is about as prolific as Serta even though it has a much shorter history. MattressFirm has a similar repertoire of sleep products with lower prices.
If you’re concerned about size choice, look to some of the smaller online merchandisers. For example, Saatva offers a single hybrid mattress, but it is hand-crafted for any size you want. You can also choose the firmness.
Conclusion
Serta is a well-known brand that’s been around for decades, but that shouldn’t automatically give a pass. We have to look at the actual quality of their products and services. We discovered that many customers complained of a drop-off in mattress quality as the years go by.
The designs of the mattresses and foundations are varied enough to meet most people’s sleep needs as long as you’re careful about what you shop for. Whether you need foam, hybrid, or inner-spring, Serta will have the right mattress for you. We rate their variety and quality an A-.
As mentioned, the price is another important factor in picking a mattress. Most of the ones we looked at cost quite a bit more than comparable models in other brands. It can at that point feel like you’re paying for an expensive brand name. We’ll rate the cost at a B.
Serta has decent customer service. As mentioned, it would probably be better if the website were easier to navigate, and live chat should be present. Serta does not have as much social media presence as we’d expect from such a prolific company. The return, warranty, and trial policies are much the same as other brands. We’ll give customer service an A.
Therefore, we give Serta as a brand an overall A-.
