Prepare yourselves. This one is an emotional roller coaster.
Signature Sleep Mattress is a Canadian based company that manufactures a wide range of mattress types including memory foam and innerspring. They’re highly affordable but made in China. You can find them in just about any store, but they only have a year warranty.
What should you do?
Honestly, we aren’t sure about this one, but let’s take an in-depth look. There’s very little about the company itself on the website, but we do know that it’s a company based in Canada. They sell mattresses exclusively through third-party fulfillers such as Amazon or Walmart.
The mattresses are manufactured in China, compressed, and sent directly to your door. This means that prices vary somewhat and the shipping and return policy depends on where you buy the mattress. Not a great start so far.
Signature Sleep is a subsidiary of Dorel Home Brands a company that specializes in small home furnishings at budget prices. They’re the umbrella for a few different brands and operate a business measuring in the billions per year. They manufacture primarily in China, but they’re considered an international brand.
Their primary bed business is actually futons, but they’ve expanded into the mattress industry relatively recently and now supply budget mattresses to a variety of third-party vendors. We’ve talked a lot about how you don’t need to spend thousands and thousands of dollars for a quality mattress, but in the case of Signature, you might want to increase your budget a little bit.
This brand is decidedly cheap, but we aren’t sure that the affordability is actually worth what you get. Let’s take a look at some of their products before we get into the real dirt.

Product Offering
There are a lot of mattresses and accessories available through Signature sleep.
Black Collection
You’ve got four mattresses within this category.
- The Aura is a 12-inch firm mattress with a layer of gel-infused foam on top and a dense poly support foam on the bottom.
- Freedom is a six-inch mattress with a layer of contour foam and a layer of support foam.
- Inspiration is a ten-inch memory foam mattress with pocketed coils as the support layer.
- Justice is a 14-inch gel infused memory foam hybrid mattress with independently pocketed coils in the support layer.
Gold
The Gold line is mostly pocketed coil mattresses with a few different constructions. Some are flippable, and some don’t have to flip. They come in eight and ten-inch depths with one pillow top model that rounds out to about 14 inches.
Each one uses a blend of foam for contouring while the pocketed micro coils are there for full support. The Gold line isn’t as good with motion transfer, but it does offer a lot of edge support and pressure relief.
Mattresses in this line include:
- Inspire ten-inch memory foam mattress with two types of contouring and supporting foam.
- Select eight-inch reversible coil mattress with foam contouring layers
- Signature Sleep ten-inch mattress with five zones of contouring for common pressure points
- Signature Sleep six-inch coil mattress
- Gold Siesta 13 inch pocketed coil mattress with pillow top
- Triumph 12-inch reversible pocketed coil mattress with memory foam contouring layers.
- Inspire eight-inch memory foam mattress with contouring and high-density foam
- Inspire 12-inch memory foam mattress with contouring and supporting foam.
Signature
The Signature collection is a memory foam and hybrid line that uses either all targeted memory foam for contouring and support or foam plus pocketed coils for support. It has a wide range of thicknesses and firmness levels.
Mattresses in this line include:
- Basic plus six-inch coil mattress with pressure relief
- Essential six-inch reversible coil mattress with dual sided memory foam contouring layers (available in white coverings or black)
- Memoir six-inch memory foam mattress
- Super back saver seven-inch memory foam mattress with seven targeted zones for pressure relief
- Contour eight-inch reversible pocketed coil mattress with memory foam
- Memoir eight-inch memory foam mattress
- Silhouette eight-inch memory foam mattress with high-performance contouring layers
- Contour ten-inch reversible pocketed coil mattress with memory foam
- Memoir ten-inch memory foam mattress
- Sunrise ten-inch pocketed coil mattress with five zones of pressure relief
- Memoir 12-inch memory foam mattress
- Signature 13-inch pocketed coil mattress with memory foam and pillow top.
There are about two dozen different types of memory foam and innerspring mattresses. They’re designed to give you a full range of options based on your sleep position, your pain issues, and whether you sleep with a partner or not.
You also have the option to choose mattresses of different depths to fit a variety of bases. For example, the Memoir memory foam mattress comes in six, eight, ten, and 12-inch depths.
Accessories
You can also find accessories to complement your mattress. They make different types of foundations including platform, metal, and even bunk beds. You can also purchase pillows, crib or toddler mattresses, and even sofa sleepers.
Their furniture division is one of the leading suppliers of apartment-style furniture. You can find futon mattresses, assemble-yourself furniture meant for small spaces, and even youth sized mattresses. You could outfit your entire apartment along with your bed if you wanted.
Customer Support
They don’t have excellent customer support reviews, but it’s tough to tell. They use third-party distributors to fill their orders, so it depends on where you get your products. Since you have to adhere to each distributor’s shipping and return policies, so you also have to go through their customer service representatives.
We aren’t huge fans of not being able to contact a company directly, but it does give you more choice for who you want to deal with. If you always have good luck with Amazon distributors, for example, you can purchase your mattress there where you’ve always had a good experience. It’s not necessarily a bad thing.
Sleep Trials, Warranties & Return Policy
Also, with these trials, warranties, and returns, it’s going to depend on where you make your purchase. This might be off-putting, but again, if you’ve always had a good experience with one of their third-party distributors, you can purchase your mattress at a place where you’re most familiar and happy.
The company itself offers just a year warranty for defective mattresses. Most mattress companies offer up to ten years if not more, so this is very disappointing. Your best bet is to purchase through a retailer who offers better warranty coverage.
Coupons, Discounts, Sales & Deals
There are many distributors for Signature Sleep, so you’re bound to find a coupon code somewhere.
Reviewed: Signature Justice 14” Hybrid Mattress
We’re going to go with one of the thickest, top of the line mattresses they offer. The Justice is a hybrid, meaning it uses both memory foam for contouring and motion reduction and coils for support and responsiveness.
What Sizes Is It Available In?
- Twin: 75″ x 39″ x 6″
- Full: 75″ x 54″ x 6″
- Queen: 80″ x 60″ x 14″
- King: 80″ x 76″ x 12″
What’s It Made Out Of?
The Justice uses two different types of materials. The first is a gel infused memory foam intended to reduce the amount of heat you feel. This layer contours to the curves in your lower back and allows shoulders and the hips to sink further into the mattress.
A ten-inch layer of independently wrapped coils provides structural support but keeps motion transfer down to a minimum, something not handled well in some of their other mattresses. The coils are sandwiched in further layers of open cell memory foam, so air can move freely and you stay cooler.
The comfort layer has three zones of support. The first zone is in the shoulder area, and it allows shoulders to sink further into the mattress. The second is a hip layer that provides firmer support while the area under your legs has the firmest. This structure keeps your spine aligned no matter what position you sleep in.
Signature sleep uses memory foam to help isolate motion. If you sleep with a partner, this is good news. You won’t get jostled awake with every toss and turn your partner makes. It does a pretty good job, too. Some of Signature Sleep’s mattresses are very thin, but the extra thick density of the Justice keeps motion transfer way down.
It also prevents that significant dip that happens when one partner is heavier than the other. While we’ve seen mattresses with better surface protection, Justice does a reasonably good job keeping the surface flat for everyone sleeping on the bed.
Is It Good For…?
Side Sleepers
Yes. The zoned support layer helps side sleepers find a position and stay there instead of tossing all night. We would like to see slightly less firm options, but because the contouring is targeted, it’s suitable for side sleepers.
Stomach Sleepers
Yes. It’s on the medium-firm end of the scale, which stomach sleepers need to keep from overextending the back. The zoned support works for stomach sleepers as well to keep the spine nice and straight. Because it has good edge support, you’ll be able to use the side of the mattress to get comfortable.
Back Pain
Yes. Medium firm support plus zoned support will help the foam fill in your lumbar region and release pressure from the spine. It also discourages tossing and turning so you’re less likely to injure your back trying to find a comfortable position.
Hot Sleepers
Yes. The top layer of foam is infused with cooling gel beads that wick away heat and moisture from the body. There’s also good air flow between the layers of the mattress, so things stay breathable. It’s not the most cooling mattress on the market, but it will keep you significantly more cooling than traditional memory foam.
Heavy People
No. The mattress isn’t rated for significant weight. If you’re heavier than the average sleeper, your weight is going to interact with the supporting layers much more quickly because you’ll push through the contouring layer. It’s going to feel too firm and isn’t going to contour the way it should.
Sex
Yes. Because it’s a pocketed coil mattress, you’re going to get a lot more bounce than you would with a traditional memory foam mattress. The foam contouring layers will give you plenty of motion transfer reduction after things are over.
Where Can I Buy It?
Signature orders are fulfilled through third parties only. Some familiar sellers are Amazon and Walmart, but you can also find Signature Sleep in some physical showrooms such as certain Home Depot stores.
How Much Does It Cost?
Most of Signature Sleep’s Mattresses are under $500. That holds true for the Justice as well as many of their other two dozen mattress styles. It’s an ultra-affordable option for those who are on a serious budget.
Is It Worth It?
Well, yes and no. We aren’t very impressed with Signature Sleep overall. There are just too many reports of sagging mattresses, defects, and materials that just don’t stand the test of time. The fact that their beds are manufactured in China doesn’t help either.
If you need an ultra-budget guest bed, this could be a good option because you can get them anywhere. If you don’t plan to sleep on the mattress full time, you probably won’t notice the quality so much, but we think you’ll be pretty disappointed in this mattress if this is your primary one.
It’s comfortable right off, and it does a suitable job of minimizing tossing and turning. Motion transfer is excellent, as is edge support, and it provides combination support for all different positions of sleep.
Users have reported less than average lifespans for these mattresses, and we tend to believe it. They don’t have much information about construction other than being manufactured in China. The overwhelming number of reports say that while the mattress is very comfortable for the first couple of years, it begins to sag very soon after that.
Its significant benefit is the price tag. Seriously, less than $500 for most models is very affordable. If the point is to get a comfortable mattress into a bedroom, then, yes. This one can handle that.
The downside is the construction. They’re comfortable for a little while, but there’s a reason the company only offers a year warranty when the industry standard is ten. It’s a guest mattress. Keep it there.
Shipping Info
Signature mattresses come compressed in a box. You don’t need to be present for delivery, but you also won’t have anyone to help you set up your bed so keep that in mind. You order from a third party, so you might be able to find white glove delivery service while you’re checking out. Your best bet is to get a friend over to help you.
You’ll need to unpack the box and carefully tear (don’t cut) the plastic away from the mattress. It will begin to inflate. It usually takes a few hours for the bed to inflate fully and then you’ll need to give it about six hours more from that point.
Best Bed Frame/Foundation for the Signature Sleep Mattress
These mattresses need to be on a foundation that fully supports them. Leaving them unsupported creates dips in the mattress and causes it to wear faster because there’s a stress point that the bed will eventually give in to.
This is particularly true of memory foam, but all mattresses will eventually break down if not adequately supported. You only have a year warranty with this mattress, so don’t make things worse by getting lazy about where your bed is.
Luckily, they’ve got plenty of foundations available, so if you need one, you can probably purchase them together.
Why Not To Buy A Signature Sleep Mattress
Where do we start? These are budget mattresses. By most accounts, you’ll get two to five years before the bed breaks down and stops contouring to and supporting your body. Like we said above, if you purchase this mattress for a guest room where it won’t be used every day, it should give you plenty of years of use.
If you sleep on it every single day, you’re going to be disappointed. It just isn’t made for it. It’s going to show wear and tear more quickly and unless you get a warranty through the vender where you bought the mattress, you’ll only have about a year to claim a mattress defect through Signature Sleep before you’re out of luck.
It also has some pretty serious off-gassing when you first unpack it. , but there’s still a heavy smell when you first take it out of the box. Luckily, it goes away fairly quickly. Some customers have reported that the bed had trouble reinflating after unpacking from the box, but we haven’t noticed that yet.
Money doesn’t always determine the quality of mattress. We’ve said before that after a certain certain point, it’s just diminishing returns, but here you’re getting what you pay for. If you can spend just a little bit more, or finance through a great company, you could get a much more durable mattress manufactured in the United States.
Similar Brands
Two decades ago, you wouldn’t have caught us complaining about a budget mattress, but now that the bed in a box industry is booming, there’s just no reason to get an average mattress just because it’s cheap. Quite a few companies produce budget mattresses that hold up well and have a much better warranty.
Casper comes to mind with an excellent mattress offering that’s around $1000 or less. Winkbeds has hybrid mattresses with choices of firmness, and even an option for heavier sleepers that considers their unique needs, also for around $1000. These are just two among many.
These companies also offer to finance if you can’t swing the full price of the mattress. We think it’s well worth your time to spend just a little more for a Casper if this is your primary mattress. For a guest bed, go with Signature.
Conclusion
We give Signature a B-/C+ for creating a good enough budget line of mattresses. If your primary purpose is a temporary mattress, this brand should hold up nicely until you get what you want, but if you’re looking to invest in a quality mattress now, we think you’ll be disappointed. We’d much rather spend a little more and go with an American made, eco-friendly mattress with an industry standard warranty.
