If your lifestyle is all about natural and limiting toxins, you pay close attention to everything you eat, all the things that go on your family’s hair and body, and you check the things you all wear. Toxins are introduced to our homes in ways we would never guess. Have you ever wondered what’s in your mattress?
It isn’t something most of us consider, but if you’re in the market for a new mattress, suddenly you realize that not all mattresses conform to the standards you set out for your family.
And now, there’s a societal shift toward all-natural, non-toxic materials. More people want their mattress to match their clean and natural lifestyle. And, you guessed it, there are a few companies that make mattresses specifically for those of us that are searching for organic, eco-friendly, non-toxic bedding.

Things to Consider Before Buying a Mattress
If you’ve already decided on an eco-friendly organic mattress, you’ve probably done a little research and realized that not all mattresses are created equal in this department.
You want a mattress that is comfortable and cool but finding one that is organically sourced and safe for your family is a challenge. Besides comfort, what else can help you choose a safe and healthy mattress? Here are a few certifications to look for that should help:
- Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) and Global Organic Latex Standard (GOLS) set out standards that certify that a product is organic and non-toxic. The USDA even recognizes GOTS as the standard for natural products.
- GOTS also verifies that a product is non-GMO through an independent review. If you find this certification on your mattress, you can be assured it is made without genetically engineered ingredients.
- The GREENGUARD Certification Program, one of the most sought-after certifications, is another certification you can look for in your search. GREENGUARD is a third-party testing program that tests for emissions.
- The GREENGUARD Certification Program℠ is an emission testing program for consumer materials and products. GREENGUARD tests for criteria based on governmental and industry standards. Each NaturePedic product is certified to the UL/GREENGUARD Gold Certification standard.
One Mattress Company Earned All Those Certifications
NaturePedic isn’t your average mattress retailer. They have a vast array of choices, from organic to vegan, California king size to crib mattresses, firm to luxury soft. They do sell their mattresses and variety of bed frames and bedding online, but they also have a smattering of physical stores across the United States if you prefer to go touch and feel their mattress before buying.
While most memory foam mattresses are certified through various agencies not to contain specific chemicals, very few mattresses can claim they’re made with all organic materials. And those that are organic cannot say they have a vegan model or are hypoallergenic.
But NaturePedic can say all those things and show the proof with their certifications. Every one of those certifications listed above, and then some! If you want a mattress to fit in a smallish budget, or if you want a plain memory foam mattress, this isn’t the mattress for you. But if you are searching for a truly organic, non-GMO, healthy and natural mattress, NaturePedic was made for you.
There are a few things to consider when purchasing any mattress set. Here are a few things to consider when you’re considering NaturePedic:
Pros
- Truly organic, with no GMO’s or chemical treatments
- Certified to be free of emissions, chemicals, or
- Formaldehyde-free certified
- Certified through the Forest Stewardship Council/Rainforest Alliance to be a company that protects and does no harm to forests or rainforest ecosystems
- Comfortable and soft materials made from natural materials
Cons
- While comfortable and built to be soft, NaturePedic does not have gel or cooling memory foam, so it will not be the most cooling mattress you can find
- More expensive than other memory foam or traditional mattresses
- NaturePedic does not offer free shipping
Features and Benefits of NaturePedic
Your new NaturePedic Mattress comes with all-natural materials, sizes from crib and children’s beds up to California King, and several models from firm to soft. They made sure that every model and every size is designed with the earth and your family’s health in mind.
Besides the completely organic nature of all their products, there are several other benefits of owning a NaturePedic product. Let’s highlight a few of the reasons NaturePedic may be the best choice for every member of your family.
Flame Retardant
NaturePedic designed their mattresses to be flame retardant without chemicals typically used for flame barriers or fire retardants. Safety is paramount in choosing a mattress, whether for an infant or an adult.
All-natural and non-toxic go hand in hand with flame retardant through innovative product design, the elimination of polyurethane foam, and the use of natural materials. NaturePedic’s certified organic mattresses not only pass all organic certification tests but pass all state and federal flammability standards with flying colors.
Organic Wool Batting
For its superior moisture-wicking properties, NaturePedic chose organic wool batting to comprise their top layer. Organic wool provides temperature regulation, keeping you cool in the summer and warm in the winter, and is a natural fire retardant. It has a natural crimp, giving it soft support, body, and bounce. Organic wool cannot be artificially manufactured, and healthy, well treated sheep are a bonus benefit of utilizing this product. It’s good for you and good for agriculture in general.
PLA
It’s going to get a little technical in here now. PLA is a plant-derived polyester used in many industries due to its organic nature and for its moisture-wicking properties. Starchy plants such as non-GMO sugarcane are processed into sugar, carefully fermented until it turns into lactic acid, and then dehydrated until it becomes a useful polymer called polylactide, or PLA.
PLA is soft and comfortable, it naturally wicks away moisture, and it resists compression, perfect for organic mattress material. As NaturePedic says, PLA is a more sustainable alternative than petroleum-based materials, and it’s naturally comfortable instead of being engineered.
MicroCoil System
NaturePedic developed a high-density micro coil system, an innovative system designed to give the bed loft and comfort from corner to corner. The micro coil system is a precisely constructed coil bed with each micro coil individually wrapped in a stretch-knit organic cotton outer casing.
These micro coils resist body impressions and provide pressure point relief. They’re also breathable and dissipate heat quickly, assisting in cool and comfortable sleep every night. NaturePedic’s exclusive construction does not use any glues or adhesives.
8” Breathable Encased Coil Support
The Micro Coil system is made up individual coils, each designed to provide just the right amount of bounce and breathability. Each coil, individually wrapped in GOTS-approved organic cotton outer casing, offers full body contouring and assists in spinal alignment.
These coils isolate movement, meaning your night is restful with no motion transfer. NaturePedic notes that their exclusive design offers superior breathability, even compared to memory foam and all-latex mattresses.
Again, no glues or adhesives are used in the construction of each individually-wrapped coil.
Quality Workmanship
Located in Ohio, NaturePedic proudly employs local Amish craftspeople to construct their beds. These craftspeople are renowned for taking pride in their work and for being attentive to every detail. A family-owned business, NaturePedic is proud to offer durable and certified organic mattresses thanks to their commitment to employing and sourcing locally.
NaturePedic Models
NaturePedic has created five models of adult mattresses, plus a line of crib and bassinet mattresses. Here’s a summary of what each model has to offer.
Chorus
Certified organic and priced right, the Chorus has a universal cushion firm feel. It provides excellent support with its layer of micro coils over encased coils and relieves pressure points. The coils help keep you cool, as does the organic cover. The Chorus meets all federal and state flammability standards while maintaining the promise not to use chemicals for flame retardants or flame barriers.
Your new mattress is compressed and rolled before shipping and is easy to assemble. The company says to make sure you position the Chorus with the quilted surface facing up, as shown in this video. It isn’t a long video and gives you a good idea of how easy it is to have your new mattress set up quickly and correctly.
Serenade
Made with a universal design that works for every sleeping position, Serenade has encased coils and a layer of organic latex. Their organic latex is cooling and soft, but offers pressure point relief, as well. You can choose from two firmness levels to support you, your choice.
Serenade is made entirely without chemicals, down to its organic design that eliminates the need for flame retardants and still meets all federal flammability standards. The mattress is rolled up after compression, then boxed for smooth delivery and setup.
EOS Series
You can choose from three different mattresses in the EOS Series: The EOS Classic, EOS Trilux, and the EOS Pillow Top. The NaturePedic EOS Organic Mattress Sleep System approaches mattress design with practicality and innovation, plus is a luxurious mattress.
Multi-layered, the EOS has a zippered construction which allows you to customize your mattress even years after you bought it. You can also choose different layers for each side, a great choice if you want firm support and your sleep partner prefers soft buoyancy (or vice versa).
The EOS System ships in multiple boxes and requires light assembly. However, NaturePedic offers white glove in-home service, if you’d prefer to have your mattress delivered and set up for you.
EOS Classic
The 12” EOS Classic has a 3” top comfort layer and an 8” bottom support layer, all wrapped together in the signature EOS organic encasement. The EOS can transform from an extra-firm to a plush mattress via layering and adding a custom topper, and the cover is soft and luxurious.
EOS Trilux
An all-latex mattress that’s organic? Yep. You’ll get three layers of 3” organic latex and a full 10” profile. Plus, the EOS Trilux transforms from an extra-firm to a plush mattress with the option of adding an organic, ultra-plush all latex topper.
EOS Pillow Top
The EOS Pillow Top has a 15” profile. On top of the three layers of 3” organic latex that the Trilux has, they’ve added another 3” of organic latex, all on an 8” bottom support layer. The EOS Pillow Top has three adjustable layers all together and transforms from a firm to an ultra-plush. They encase the entire mattress in their signature organic mattress cover for a luxury finish.
Halcyon
The Halcyon collection offers three models to choose from. These elegant mattresses come in the Azure model, the Arcadia, and the Elysium, each with differing firmness options, all with the same organic, all-natural concept.
Azure provides exceptional comfort and can be customized. Arcadia can also be customized and boasts a fine organic wool layer. And the Elysium can be personalized to your own comfort level and has a premium plush pillowtop for luxurious comfort.
All models feature 500-thread count sateen top quilts and the finest organic latex, cotton, and wool blend that contains alpaca and cashmere.
NaturePedic Vegan
Made with not just organic and non-GMO materials, but vegan materials, the wool-free EOS Trilux features three layers of 3” latex. It has a 10” profile and a removable and replaceable organic latex topper so you can customize your sleeping experience.
NaturePedic Kids Mattresses
When choosing a mattress for your child, selecting a mattress made with no questionable materials and no chemicals feels right. That NaturePedic made a mattress that meets those standards, and is comfortable, that feels even better. Constructed with natural materials and designed to be fire resistant, NaturePedic also implemented 6-gauge border wire for extra support and durability along the sides of each mattress.
The NaturePedic line of organic kids mattresses offer medium-firm support and the same quality, organic materials as their adult line. They offer several options from luxury quilted cotton, waterproof mattresses or optional waterproof mattress cover, dust-mite proof fabric, low profile foundations, even your choice of bed frames.

Reviews
Customers love how transparent NaturePedic is, and their all-natural materials are the reason they ended up buying their mattresses. But almost every customer was extremely pleased with how comfortable the mattress was, as well.
From the NaturePedic website review section:
And this happy customer:
Three Thrifty Guys reviewed the mattress after purchasing a queen pillow top. Their only regret was not getting a king-sized mattress, as the quality and comfort were top of the line:

Deciding
If you’ve decided that buying a mattress made from organic, earth-friendly materials is the best choice for your family, there are (thankfully) options. There’s really no such thing as “too many” options when it comes to buying a mattress that is not only good for the planet, and good for your family’s health but is comfortable.
Buying a mattress is a long-term investment. The NaturePedic line of beds is an excellent choice for several reasons:
- They’re certified through every notable agency only to use organic and non-toxic materials in all their products. These agencies know you trust them to inform you, and NaturePedic is transparent on what they utilize – – with you and with the certifying agencies.
- NaturePedic was a company created to solve a problem: the same problem you had when you realized that mattresses could not only be unsustainable, but dangerous for you and your family. The fact that NaturePedic saw that and addressed it is another great reason to choose their mattress.
- When you choose your NaturePedic mattress, you have the option to customize it to be as firm or as luxe as you want. You can also add sheets, pillows, even toppers from the same company. Your entire bed, from floor to pillow, can be organic, hypoallergenic, earth-friendly, and non-toxic.
Maybe making a choice isn’t so hard after all. NaturePedic made it pretty easy.
