Eclipse started out in the 1890s, making it one of the oldest mattress companies in America. In fact, the company didn’t originate in America at all. It came about as the result of the Weisglass brothers from Ukraine deciding to expand their spring manufacturing. Eclipse moved to New York City in 1903, being rebranded as US Cabinet and Bed, then Eclipse Sleep Products.
Eclipse has expanded its base of operations worldwide; while maintaining its United States operations, it also has set up manufacturing facilities and distributors worldwide. Currently, you can purchase and Eclipse mattress at one of over 7,000 retailers around the world and through various online outlets.
This company is a firm believer in minimizing damage to the environment. They use only sustainable organic materials like 100 percent wool, cotton, and rayon. Their environmental consciousness leads them to recycle old mattresses that customers may return rather than throwing the product in an already-overgrown landfill.
You can find Eclipse mattresses mainly at MattressFirm and other retail outlets.

Product Offering
Eclipse has several product lines. The Serene and Harmony lines are the commercial ones for regular consumers, but here doesn’t seem to be that much difference between them from what we can tell. Both lines, based on the diagrams provided on the website, appear to have the same hybrid construction. A hybrid mattress consists of multiple layers of foam covering a layer of coiled springs. This design provides an excellent blend of support and comfort.
Eclipse also has several mattresses they sell only to hotels and other buyers in the hospitality industry. Some of these include the Master Suite, Presidential Suite, and Executive Suite.
The mattress we’re going to talk about is the Ultra-Deluxe gel memory foam mattress. It currently is only available online, but it is one of the more highly reviewed models of the Eclipse brand.
Customer Support
Eclipse has operations all over the world, even though they started and are based in the United States. You can reach their customer service line at (800) 233-7467. You can also email them at the address listed on the website.
Although factories and retail outlets for the company exist all over the world, you can count on reaching United States-based customer service. Therefore, there should be few if any language barriers for English speakers.
The website itself provides only a scant amount of information, and it is selective about what model of mattress it wants to promote. We think it would be better if the Eclipse International website were more comprehensive about the information it provides on the various kinds of mattresses. For example, we’d like to see more technical specifications listed. Users who want to be mindful of what they’re getting should be able to find the information easily without having to go on a Web search that often will yield outdated or incorrect stats.
Sleep Trials, Warranties & Return Policy
Most mattress companies who sell their products online offer a free trial period to get your body accustomed to the feel of the mattress. Eclipse does not sell its mattresses primarily online and does not offer any free trial period that we could find. We think this is a detriment to Eclipse; customers who have to go into a store and rely on a brief 15-minute interval to determine how well a mattress works aren’t as likely to be satisfied with their purchases. Eclipse places a great deal of faith in its products, but it may be misplaced.
As for a warranty, Eclipse provides a 10-year limited warranty like many other companies in the mattress industry. This is a standard period. The warranty includes damage due to faulty construction or during shipping, but does not cover any user damage. For example, if you place the foam mattress in a cold environment, cut it, or otherwise damage it, your warranty will be void The warranty covers repair or replacement of a value up to the cost of the original mattress.
During the first two years of the warranty period, the company will replace or repair the mattress at no charge. In the following eight years, there is a prorated charge and a handling fee, which varies by location. To make claims on a warranty, make sure you keep your original proof of purchase from the retailer.
Eclipse does not have a singular return policy; if you buy an Eclipse mattress and aren’t satisfied, you are subject to the return policy of the retailer that provided the mattress. Refunds usually occur within the first few days after the mattress has been safely delivered to the store; of course, assuming it isn’t damaged in the process.
Coupons, Discounts, Sales & Deals
Eclipse doesn’t seem to offer a lot of coupons or deals on their products, at least not directly. These are often handled by retailers. We haven’t found many deals for Eclipse, but if you buy from MattressFirm, it seems you get a 20 percent discount from what the mattresses cost. For the Ultra Deluxe 11-inch model, the most expensive size is normally $969, but we saw it listed for a discount at $775.
For the best deals, you should focus on going to your local mattress outlet during seasonal sales. During this time, they’re usually trying to get rid of old stock and will place the items on clearance. You might be able to get up to a 50% discount.

What Sizes Is It Available In?
The Eclipse Ultra Deluxe gel memory foam mattress, like many of Eclipse’s models, doesn’t come in all the sizes other mattresses do. However, you should still be able to find a decent selection. Here’s a breakdown of the sizes and the measurements for each.
- Twin: 39 inches x 75 inches
- Full: 54 inches x 75 inches
- Queen: 60 inches x 80 inches
- King: 74 inches x 80 inches
Many other mattress makers offer Twin XL and California King sizes. Twin XL typically has a little more width than the standard twin. Meanwhile, the California King is slightly longer and thinner than the regular king-size mattress.
What’s It Made Out Of?
The Eclipse Ultra Deluxe mattress employs four different layers of memory foam of varying weights and densities.
Eclipse has patents on various materials and designs that feature in its mattresses. Some of these patents include the Spinal Zone system for lumbar support and the LifeEdge system for edge integrity. Foam mattresses have a reputation of being flimsy at the edges, but the LifeEdge system claims to alleviate that factor.
The bottom layer of the Eclipse Ultra Deluxe mattress consists of 7 inches of base foam. This foam, because it is the foundation, has to be extremely firm. We couldn’t get an exact measurement on how dense or heavy base foam is. We can assume it’s the standard polyurethane type with at least 2.2 pounds of it per cubic foot. This is the minimum for memory foam, but as stated we can’t find exact stats on the base.
Above the base layer, you get two inches of open-cell memory foam. Memory foam is designed to contract to pressure and return to its original shape, so it gives the mattress some bounciness. Memory foam doesn’t work as well as an innerspring in this regard, but it is softer. The memory foam is much denser than the base foam: 5 pounds per cubic foot.
The third layer of the mattress, you get the final 2 inches of memory foam. This foam is an open-cell gel-infused foam that has a density of 3.8 pounds per cubic foot. It has a softer feel than does the layer below it, making the mattress feel extra plush for the user.
The open cell design facilities this property, and it also contributes to the cooling abilities of the mattress. Open cell design means that there is more room for air to flow. When air cannot flow, it heats up.
The pillow top layer, made of hypoallergenic and flame-retardant cloth, rounds out the mattress composition. The entire mattress is Certi-PUR certified, meaning that it’s made of eco-friendly materials. If you’re an environmentally-conscious person, you can rest easier knowing that your bedding created a low carbon footprint in its creation.
Many of Eclipse’s mattresses have this same type of construction, including the ones that use inner springs.
Is It Good For…?
Side Sleepers
Yes. The Ultra Deluxe Gel Memory Foam mattress is extraordinarily soft. This gives it the ability to match your body’s curvature perfectly. The curvature is most apparent in side sleeping because of how the hips and back are shaped in profile.
Without proper alignment of the spine, you can experience health problems like back pain, strained ligaments and muscles, impaired blood flow, and pinched nerves. If you get pins and needles when you wake up, this is probably why. Side sleepers need a soft mattress; the softer, the better.
Stomach Sleepers
No. Stomach sleepers don’t tend to have much luck with ultra plush mattresses like the Ultra Deluxe. The back is naturally inclined to arch when you lie on your stomach, and without proper support, it can lead to problems.
Also, the majority of weight in the torso is concentrated in the abdominal cavity. If your body isn’t supported, it can lead to problems with breathing because the internal organs are being compressed unnaturally. Stomach sleepers do well with a firm mattress.
If you switch from stomach to side sleeping throughout the night, you might not have as many problems as someone who sleeps solely on his stomach.
Back Pain
Yes. Foam mattresses, especially plush ones like the Ultra Deluxe, are great for back pain. They allow the back and spine to align naturally without being subject to painful pressure points that normally develop when a person sleeps on a firm mattress.
Eclipse’s patented Spinal Zone system increases the benefits to back sleepers. It adds extra lumbar support that prevents the back from collapsing and compressing the spinal column.
Even a slightly firmer mattress will work well for back pain, as long as it isn’t too firm. The Ultra Deluxe ranks at about a 3 on a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being firmest.
Hot Sleepers
Yes. Normal memory foam mattresses are too dense to allow decent airflow. The open cell design of the Eclipse Ultra Deluxe promotes robust air circulation. Coupled with the cooling gel infused in the top layer of foam, you’re sure to get a cool night’s sleep.
Over time, it’s possible that the memory foam will lose its elasticity and will stay somewhat compressed. If it compresses more than one inch and there’s no damage, you may be able to have the mattress repaired or replaced under warranty. Consult your dealer for details.
Heavy People
No. Foam mattresses do not offer as much support as heavier people tend to need. Inner spring mattresses are better for large people. Also, large people may be prone to sleeping hotter. When it comes to a foam mattress, this is worse because the extra weight sinks into the foam and prevents air from flowing through the mattress and around the person’s body. The cooling gel infused into the foam has some effect here, but maybe not enough.
Heavy people need about 13 inches of thickness in a mattress to feel adequate support, and this mattress is only 11 inches thick. The larger Eclipse model might be helpful, but there is no guarantee.
Sex
No. Foam mattresses don’t work that well for sex. First, with the Eclipse Ultra Deluxe, there’s far too much give. It’s hard to enjoy sex when you and your partner feel like you’re sinking into the bed, which is what sometimes happens with this mattress and other foam models.
For sex to work, there needs to be some bounce in the bed, which usually requires bedsprings. A hybrid mattress would work better for lovemaking, even though it would be more expensive.
Foam mattresses also lack good edge support, which makes many sexual positions unworkable. This isn’t a problem with the Eclipse brands because they use the LifeEdge support system for this type of support.
The upside to sex on this mattress is that, apart from you and your partner, there isn’t any sound. No squeaky springs to worry about here. Overall, it’s still too soft of a mattress for sex.
Where Can I Buy It?
The Eclipse Ultra Deluxe 11 inch is only available online through several retailers like MattressFirm, and you can also buy it on Amazon. You cannot currently purchase directly though the Eclipse website, which would be an advantage for the company to implement because customers would find it easier than navigating third parties.
Online-only retailers also have lower costs because of the lack of need to pay for showroom space.
It does offer a retailer location tool. By entering your ZIP code into the website, you can get a list of locations that sell the mattress near you. At that point, you have to make a visit to the retailer and discuss purchase options should you choose to do so.
How Much Does It Cost?
Prices vary from retailer to retailer. However, we did find an online listing that seems to give a decent indication of the price point of the Eclipse Ultra Deluxe mattress. Here it is by size:
- Twin: $539.20
- Full: $589.20
- Queen: $789.20
- King: $969.20
Some retailers may offer to finance. Typically, financing is subject to credit approval, but you can count on getting a decision quickly.
Is It Worth It?
The mattress itself doesn’t seem to be bad, especially for its price point. It appears to have the same quality as many other foam mattresses of its type, but other aspects of dealing with the company detract from the cost-effectiveness in our eyes. The website leaves out a lot of information, making it difficult to glean the knowledge on whether this is the right mattress for you.
Shipping Info
The Eclipse Ultra Deluxe mattress ships with standard UPS, and usually takes about five days to get to you from the time the order is confirmed. You may also have the option of using FedEx. With FedEx, the mattress does not require a signature, and it comes compressed in a box. To set it up, move the box into the room, slide the mattress out, and let it expand.
Best Bed Frame/Foundation for the Eclipse Mattress
You can use any hard or solid foundation with Eclipse mattresses. Foam mattresses conform exactly to the shape of their support so that box springs would be a bad idea. A solid foundation without any slats or very small slats works better because it makes the support more even.
Why Not To Buy An Eclipse Mattress
If you prefer a pure inner spring model or a hybrid, you might want to stay away from Eclipse. The company’s website is also difficult to navigate. If you want to have information that’s easily accessible
Compare Similar Brands
If you want a similar mattress, try Saatva. This mattress is available in three levels of firmness: hard, soft, and medium. This appeals to a wider range of sleepers than does the single level of firmness. Even if they’re more expensive, it’s still a good tradeoff.
Leesa is another similar brand of mattress to try at home. Unlike Eclipse, many other companies provide you with a trial period during which you can test out the mattress and return it if it isn’t to your satisfaction.
Conclusion
Now it comes time to rank Eclipse among its peers, given everything we’ve looked at. First, the mattress quality. We’ll give this one an A-. We don’t know the specifics of what Eclipse makes their foam, but they seem to be good quality, if not groundbreaking.
The price of their product also is fairly standard for the industry. We’ll give them an A- on pricing; they aren’t bad, but there’s nothing spectacular. It would also help if there were easier-to-find deals for customers. Customers, especially repeat ones, like to have some bargain.
Finally, the customer support and website of any company is important; it serves as their advertisement. This is where Eclipse falls flat. There is very little information on the website and only two methods of contact. Most companies offer live chat or an FAQ to address common questions, but Eclipse has basic information and no way of purchasing products from on-site. We give Eclipse’s customer support a B.
