Mattress companies are getting out of control with some of their claims. They have cooling technology, memory foam, polyfoam, off-gassing power and all these hard to understand features. Plus, mattresses have gotten extremely expensive.
I chose to review Allswell’s lineup of mattresses because they’re marketed toward people who want a great night’s rest on a budget and aren’t looking for all the fancy bells and whistles of some of these thousand-dollar mattresses. If you’re looking to improve your sleep, sleep longer without waking, and wake up feeling refreshed without breaking the bank, keep reading.

Things to Consider Before Buying a Mattress
Before we dive into the product itself, we should talk about why you want a mattress and what kinds of questions you might be asking yourself.
Do you need a new mattress?
The first thing you want to ask yourself is if your mattress is still okay to sleep on, chances are if you are reading this it is not. Everyone claims their mattress is okay for a certain amount of time; some say ten years, some say 25, some claim forever.
How to tell if you need a new mattress:
- The primary way to tell if you need a new mattress is to consider how it makes you feel. If you bought it, you probably thought it felt great to sleep on, so you were happy with the way it made you feel. Fast-forward 10 years and now you wake up every morning with a stiff back, and you’re wondering why.
- Go up to your bed and pull back the covers and any toppers you may have and look at the state of your mattress. If there are dips and grooves from you sleeping in the same place for many years, it is time to replace the mattress.
- You should still consider time as well even if the mattress still feels okay. Dead skin cells and dust mites are a real problem, and you deserve a new mattress every ten years or so.
If you’ve fully committed on getting a new mattress but you’re unsure of what kind to buy it can be overwhelming. There is a lot of technology and research going into building mattresses these days so terminology can be difficult to understand. So, what kind of mattress should you consider?
Memory Foam – This type of mattress is becoming the most popular due to its high level of comfort and conformity to every kind of body shape. If you are a side sleeper, this is an excellent option because your pressure points dig into the mattress. These also resist sag and typically have great motion transfer because the foam dents only where you are currently laying.
Gel – Gel usually accompanies memory foam and the reason I love it so much is because it combats the heat in the mattresses. The gel is often used to suck heat in from your body to allow you to remain cool throughout the night. If you are someone who has a tendency to wake up in a pool of sweat every morning you might want to consider a gel infused memory foam.
Innerspring (coil) – The innerspring mattress is supporting by a layer of springs on the inside, and your level of firmness often gets determined by the number of springs. Coil mattresses are usually more firm than memory foam, and they often have a better way of reducing heat unless the foam is gel-infused. The main plus to this type of mattress is that there is usually a ton of variety in the kinds of firmness you can get because the springs are easy to manipulate.
Hybrid – These mattresses are a blend of everything we’ve talked about so far. We will cover one of these down below, but they contain memory foam and springs which I think is a great combination for people who need a balance between comfort and firmness. I like sleeping on a firm mattress, but I also don’t want to feel like I’m sleeping on the floor. A small layer of memory foam on top with firm springs underneath is the perfect balance for many people.
Presenting The Allswell Mattress
Here we have the Allswell mattress which is new to the marketplace in 2018. This brand gets managed by a clothing company that is owned by Walmart. They have two offerings, one is an all foam mattress which is soft and gentle for side sleepers, and the other is a hybrid containing foam and springs for people looking for a more firm mattress.
When you stack the Allswell mattress up against some of the competition, you’ll quickly see that they don’t claim to have any flashy features and their price is incredibly affordable in comparison.
Something I truly appreciate about this company, in general, is the fact that they offer two mattresses to appeal to a wider audience and they offer sheets, duvets, and covers as well.
Allswell promises that they’re the company that listens to what their consumers need. They create mattresses that people want, not mattresses that they think you want. The invention of their hybrid is the perfect example of that; people thought foam was too soft, and springs were too hard. They combined the best of both worlds to give their customers what they need.
If you’re looking for a mattress that fits the needs of you as an individual and you are on a budget, the Allswell mattress might surprise you.
Pros:
- Two mattress offerings
- Safe quality materials
- Both mattresses sleep cool
- Great motion transfer support
- Exceptional value
Cons:
- No mattress specs. available
- Few size options
- Little information on the company
Features and Benefits
Now let’s take a look at some of the features of these two mattresses from Allswell. When buying a mattress, you want to pay close attention to how to it feels, but when you’re purchasing online, that can be impossible. We’ll help you make a decision.
Heat Control
Memory foam mattresses have a poor reputation for being overly hot, and these mattresses don’t do a whole lot to help with that. Naturally, the all foam mattress sleeps hotter than the hybrid because you sink a lot more into it.
Some people might enjoy this if you find yourself cold a lot at night or if you live in a place with cold weather. If you are concerned about the amount of heat retention, I would recommend choosing the hybrid model because the spring foam combination will help with some of the heat issues.
Design
There is limited information available about the specifications on this mattress. The layer thickness, specific foams, or density are not available, but I can tell you that the standard foam mattress has three layers of foam. One is the support foam on the bottom, and the top two layers are comfort based memory foam. The hybrid version contains a top layer of comfort foam with the supportive section being innerspring coils.
In the future, Allswell should make an effort to provide more information to their consumers because they are only available to purchase online. This information is readily available for most of their competitors, so I think they need to step it up here.
Support
A big source of pain due to mattresses comes from ones that do not support your body well enough. Everyone has a different shape, and traditional spring mattresses were never built to change their shape to meet everyone. With the introduction of memory foam, we now have beds that respond to the shape of your body and help your spine stay aligned while you sleep.
The Allswell mattresses provide excellent support, and I especially feel that the hybrid mattress does the best job because I prefer a mattress on the firm side. If you sleep on your stomach, you’ll need a mattress with good support, and the Allswell hybrid gives you that.
Motion Isolation
The Allswell brands differ slightly in motion isolation because all foam mattresses are typically better for this issue. Springs tend to dip and curve when someone gets in and out of them, so the whole bed shakes as a result.
Foam lowers where there is pressure, so the other side of the best doesn’t feel the impact of someone getting in and out. Since we’re dealing with a hybrid mattress here, we believe the motion isolation is slightly better than it would be in an all-spring mattress but not quite as good as the all-foam one.
Availability
Something we did not like about this mattress is its availability for purchase. You can only buy the mattress from their online website, and it’s not available in stores anywhere. That means you have to entirely trust what you read online and buy a mattress without ever trying it.
While this is common practice today, some manufacturers at least have test bedrooms where you can go and try one out if you want. I feel that if Walmart owns the company, they should try to make the mattress available in stores to appeal to a wider audience.
The one plus side about buying the mattress from their website is they offer free two-day shipping, and you get a 100-night sleep trial, so you don’t have to worry about not liking it, you could always send it back.
White Glove Service
In addition to free two-day shipping, they also offer their “white glove service” which means someone will come to your house and set everything up for you and they’ll also haul away your old mattress. With the mattress itself being so affordable this seems like a worthwhile upgrade for many people.

- Hybrid is out of this world
What they don’t love:

Other Products You Might Like
We’ve scoured the internet to find similar mattresses and others that fill in the blanks that Allswell lacks. Check out a few of our suggestions for mattresses you might like.
The DreamCloud
The DreamCloud mattress debuted at the beginning of 2018 as a hybrid mattress that is a 6.5 on the firmness scale. It meets the criteria of medium-firm which is the most desirable level for most sleepers. The mattress includes all three types of material; memory foam, gel, and latex. It also features a coil core covered with foam to improve edge support and provide a soft but firm feel on your body.
A few additional features worth mentioning are the motion transfer and sag resistance. Since the core is gel and springs, you get an exceptional amount of bounce back on the mattress so even after extensive use you shouldn’t experience any sagging. The DreamClouds material also has a top layer of foam which is great for motion transfer. For couples that sleep different schedules and get in and out of bed all the time at night, this mattress is a great option.
Compared to Allswell, the price of this mattress is much higher, but they do offer a 365-night sleep trial with a lifetime warranty.

The New Purple
This mattress features a “Smart Grid” technology with support pocket coils; the result is a highly durable bed with the maximum amount of relief on pressure points. The bed also comes in three different settings which I love.
There is a medium firm (6.5), a medium (5.5), and a soft (4.5). I always go for the company that offers multiple settings because you know you’ll find something that works well for you. I have had mattresses in the past with limited selection, and you end up stuck with something that isn’t perfect for you.
The Smart Grid layer consists of a gel polymer grid, I know that’s hard to understand, but it’s the same as gel infused memory foam, but it sleeps a bit cooler and holds up better over time. This mattress is great for sleepers of all styles and should help alleviate back pain in those who suffer from “old mattress back.”
Of course, with unique and state of the art features, comes a hefty price tag. One of the reasons why I appreciate the Allswell mattress line, they offer a lot of the same features for a fraction of the price.

LinenSpa Hybrid
If the price is highly important to you, but you still want a mattress that offers the support and comfort you need you can check out this one from LinenSpa. The mattress has a simple design of 1.5 inches of poly foam on top with 6.5 inches of steel coils below, that is it. The design is simple, but it results in some pressure on your shoulders and hips if you sleep on your side. For back and stomach sleepers the firmness of this mattress will be highly appreciated.
Since you’re dealing with a mild hybrid mattress with thick coils, you will not get the great motion transfer capabilities you did from all the previous mattresses. The price point on the LinenSpa is slightly lower than the Allswell, but I wanted to give you an idea of the incredible value I feel you get with the Allswell mattress.
At a price point similar to this, you are not getting as good a sleep experience as you would for another $100 with the Allswell hybrid. LinenSpa also does not offer nearly as long of a sleep trial, and customers have reported shipping and service issues.
